Sunny Los Angeles can be a dark place indeed in Cassandra Clare’s Lord of Shadows, the sequel to the #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling Lady Midnight.

Emma Carstairs has finally avenged her parents. She thought she’d be at peace. But she is anything but calm. Torn between her desire for her parabatai Julian and her desire to protect him from the brutal consequences of parabatai relationships, she has begun dating his brother, Mark. But Mark has spent the past five years trapped in Faerie; can he ever truly be a Shadowhunter again?

And the faerie courts are not silent. The Unseelie King is tired of the Cold Peace, and will no longer concede to the Shadowhunters’ demands. Caught between the demands of faerie and the laws of the Clave, Emma, Julian, and Mark must find a way to come together to defend everything they hold dear—before it’s too late.

Why We’re Waiting

Gah, GUYS! I can not even begin to explain the fanatic obsession I have in regards to this series. Cassandra Clare sunk her hooks into me long ago and now I’m at her mercy.

The best part of a new chapter in the Shadowhunters universe is the excuse to relive all the magic. Currently, I’m rereading the entire series (AGAIN) for the who-even-knows-at-this-point time. Unlike Clary and Jace, Tessa and Will, or Tessa and Jem, this piece of the universe revolves around a couple who has known each other their entire lives. And unlike the other couples, there was never any question about their destinies to belong together. However, lots of shit got in the way of that and we get to deal with the fallout. I love that Emma and Julian are SO very different from the other books’ main couple. I love that they both are so fierce in their love, even when they are working so hard to stay apart.

And of course, there are SO many characters in this story to love. Ty is probably my most anticipated, just to see how things go between him and our newcomer to the Institute. There is Cristina and her saga with why she left home. There is Diana and her mysteries. And all the Blackthorns and their descent into banding together despite the Shadowhunter world that works against them. There’s Mark, who I adore and just want to see get some peace. And naturally I expect much more of my favorites from the other books, especially Tessa and Jem (OH PLEASE OH PLEASE!) With 704 pages, there is a lot of room to see old favorite faces.

Unlike ACOWAR, this book is a “middle child” in its series, so I’m expecting lots of torment, which should push me to be scared to read it. Instead, I’m ready to feel that same feeling of absolute terror that comes with a CC cliffhanger. BRING IT ON!

So, what book are YOU waiting for this week?
