Top Ten Books We’re Thankful For

These are in no particular order!

It’s hard to remember the book that really got me reading, but one book from my childhood sticks out. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott was one series that I distinctly remember reading as a child. I loved every moment of it. I’m thankful that my grandma gave it to me. I believe it was one of the books that led me towards the path that I am on now.

Back in high school I used to check out tons of different books. One I checked out has been part of my life ever since. You guys should know I’m thankful for Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Another book I am thankful for is Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. This book was one of my first YA series that I can remember reading and sharing with others. My best friend Christina and I would trade the books when we finished and constantly talked about them. Little did I know then that I’d love series and sharing about them as much as I do.

I am so thankful that I picked up John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. Not just because it’s a beautiful book, but because it was the reason Jess and I are such great friends. In our creative writing class 4 years ago we were told to bring in a quote from a book that we loved. We were both surprised to see we’d brought the same book and quote. And here we are, 4 years later blogging together in totally new places in life.

This series has to be on here, for several reasons. 1. It’s an amazing book series and I’m consistently in love with the worlds this author creates. 2. This series has helped connect me to another great friend, Brista. Jess, Brista, and I are all so obsessed that we have an SJM titled chat on Facebook. 3. I actually got my fiance to read it back before we started dating. He has been slow going through it but it has been great having that connection with him. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I won’t put down ACOTAR because that’s connected with this one for some of the same reasons.

It would be terrible if I didn’t list this series to be thankful for: Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling. I was late to reading this series so my reasons aren’t the same as many of my friends. I’m thankful for this series because it really made me believe in magic. It made me realize that there are people like me out there– looking at you, Hermione. I also love that I can call myself a Hufflepuff and be proud.

Naturally, I am thankful for George R. R. Martin’s amazing series: A Song of Ice and Fire. It is my favorite series in terms of character development. That’s my favorite thing about books. I was so happy to find this series. Now, if only he’d finish the dang series.

I started this next series back when I first met my fiance. When he and I were first talking, as friends, I fell in love with the poetry of this series and spread it. This was one of the first books my fiance and I bonded over and still do. The Name of the Wind series brought poetry into my reading in a way that no other book had before. I need book 3…

Back in high school I was volunteering at an elementary school book fair for community service time. I worked that whole time and kept coming back to the same table. I kept looking at the same book. One of the staff noticed me and later told me that I could set aside one book to take home. I immediately grabbed it. This book was The Host by Stephanie Meyer. I wrote the date and everything in that book. I re-read it so many times that my copy (the same copy) is now really shabby. I’m thankful for this book because it’s been an ever present part of my life and I still love the story.

Graphic novels have become a great part of my life. I’m forever thankful to my friend TJ who bought me two different ones for Christmas back in 2014. Since that first graphic novel I picked up, Saga by Brian K. Vaughn, I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m still hooked on this series and thankful that it got me reading graphic novels.

That’s it for me! There are a ton of books out there that I love and I’m thankful for in different ways but these are the ones I am truly thankful to have in my life. I love that I can think back to when I first got all of these books and remember the little things that make them special. Thanks for reading!

I almost forgot it but then I saw my fiance’s shirt and it was a Harry Potter shirt… lol. I want to go there so badly too! I’m irritated because Leaky Con is coming to Texas but it’s already sold out.

Thanks! I actually started re-reading them the other day. I just started Blood Promise today. They’re still just as great as I remember. Did you ever read the spinoff series, Bloodlines? If not, you definitely should!

  1. Little Women and Harry Potter are the only ones on your list I’ve read, some great names mentioned here.
I tried to think outside of the Harry Potter zone, for my own list, just because I thought it would get so many mentions.

Thanks for commenting! I’d definitely recommend any of these I’ve listed here. They’re all great for different reasons.
Understandable. I couldn’t leave it off. Harry Potter has been part of my life for so many years now. I’m thankful for it in so many ways.
