It’s Top 10 Tuesday (hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl) the topic is:

Top Ten Books I Disliked/Hated but Am “Really” Glad I Read

Top Ten Books I Want to Read, But Just Didn’t Get Around To

Jess

Yeah, I sat on this topic for a solid week and still cannot think of one book to add to the list. So, since we are rule breakers, Aleya suggested I should do “Books I want to read, but just didn’t get around to.”  So, without further ado, I’m going to do just that!

The Night Circus

Aleya and Brista have tried mercilessly to get me to read this one and by all accounts, it should be a no brainer. And yet, I never seem to get into the story. I promised to try and get it read by the end of this year, because it just needs to happen, but we shall see.

Darker Shade of Magic

I have yet to read a bad thing about this magical series and yet… and yet. When I picked this book up, it was a bad time (I’d just finished ACOWAR and Lord of Shadows so I was not in a place to start a new fantasy world), so it’s on my read one day soon shelf.

Cruel Prince

I made the mistake of trying to read this one after I read another fae book. I have to start spacing out my books, because typing this list is making me see a clear pattern of why I don’t finish books.

Defy the Stars

Started, got distracted. Rinse, repeat.  Seriously, I told myself last year I was waiting for book two to come out. It did, and here we are.

The Remnant Chronicles Books 2 & 3

I tried three time to read that second book and just never got into the story. But, I have the compulsion to finish the story. I know once I get over the hump I’ll enjoy it, but I just have to get to the point where I can push through.

Six of Crows

Another book I just started at the wrong time. I enjoyed the Grisha series (even if I couldn’t finish the last book because I didn’t want to see a certain couple end up together), and I’ve heard this one is even better. So, one day?

Red Rising

This is right up my alley but I never got hooked. The people I know and trust love the series (coughAleyacough) so I know I will need to retry one day!

Raven Cycles Books 2-4

Seriously, I really liked this weird series, but I never was able to finish it. The pace is crazy slow, but I think it will be worth it.

Tiger Lily

I’ve heard AMAZING things about this one, but I just never end up picking it up. I own it and know one day I’ll get to fall in love, but I have to wait for that whim to hit me.

On the Jellicoe Road

Another one I know I’ll love, have heard amazing things about, and yet.  And yet.

Seriously, I have learned a lot about myself writing this list up!

Top Ten Books I Disliked/Hated but Am “Really” Glad I Read

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye

Honestly, I didn’t finish this book but I’m glad I tried it because it made me love The Night Circus more. TNC is such a better book. This one tries to be The Night Circus and I just won’t stand for it. Can’t say I’m glad I read it.

Antigoddess by Kendare Blake

I only liked one character in this book and she gets killed off in such a stupid way. I’m not sure I’m glad I read this one… but I hated it.

NextWave, Agents of H.A.T.E.: Ultimate Collection by Warren Ellis

I read this for graphic novel club so I’m glad I read it with them. I wasn’t a fan of this book but I’m glad I got the chance to discuss it with others.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Okay, I can’t hate a book more than I hate this one. It pissed me off so much. I’m glad I read it because now I totally understand why so many people read it. I can’t understand why they’d like it, but I’m glad I can place it when people discuss it. I much prefer Salinger’s Nine Stories. But man, I hated this book.

Life by Committee by Corey Ann Haydu

This book was just terribly done. The only reason I’m glad I read this is because it’s a good example of what not to do for teens.

Conviction by Kelly Loy Gilbert

I really didn’t like this one but I’m glad I read it so I knew what to tell people when they asked about it at the library.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Ugh, this book is so bad. It’s a terrible relationship. I’m glad I read it because it kept me from picking up anything else in this series and possibly by this author. So bad, man. There’s much better new adult out there.

The Magicians by Lev Grossman

I wanted to like this book, I really did, but I don’t. I really didn’t like this book at all. I prefer the show much more than the book. I’m glad I read it so I could compare properly.

Another Day by David Leviathan

I couldn’t get very far in this book. I loved Every Day but this one just wasn’t doing it for me. I’m glad I read the little bit that I did to know I didn’t want to muck up my love for Every Day

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

I really disliked this whole series. I’m glad I read them because they truly made me realize that I’m not a big Marie Lu fan, as sad as that makes me.
